Sweet success

I planted a 2 1/2 x 8 feet box of sweet potato slips (rooted from grocery store potatoes) in the Spring & yesterday was harvest day.  My grandkids were here & even the teenager got involved when they saw how big they were.

We harvested 47.5 lbs out of that one box & they were HUGE.    When I planted them my mom remembered that her dad always said plant them straight down if you want large potatoes, plant at a slant for more longer, slender ones.  I planted most of them straight down and here is what I got:

Awesome sweet potato harvest, that is a good haul for that small amount of space.

Oh, those look good! I have a few to harvest, but am squeezing in the last few days for them to grow and I think the cooler weather is supposed to improve their flavor. I saw on a show recently that planting them at an angle so that more of the stem is buried is supposed to give a larger harvest, but I prefer the rounder ones because they are less stringy. I love to wrap them in foil and cook them on the grill. One of my favorite foods!

Wow, That is amazing! I have never grown sweet potates. It seems like you got alot. Should last all winter. I look forward to reading your blog.
