Well, things are coming along very nicely. It has been really busy around here so I haven't posted in a while, but I took a few pictures the other day. My garden is way ahead of others around here & I credit it to the raised beds and Mel's Mix (1/3 compost, 1/3 coarse vermiculite, 1/3 peat). The raised beds heated up much quicker and you don't have to wait for the mix to get dry enough to work in after all the spring rains. I started everything from seed, except 2 tomatoes and started the squash and part of the cucumbers inside. Our temperatures fluctuated a lot - high 80s, then a cool spell in the 50s with nights as cool as 37, but no frost.
Our last frost date is April 20, but I took a gamble & planted my corn & beans a good bit earlier than that. I really meant to keep a journal about dates, but I didn't.
My lettuce is all gone, but this week I have bush Roma beans blooming, yellow squash & zucchini ready to pick, cucumber vines are loaded with blooms & tiny cukes, about an inch long. The melons are almost ready to train on the trellis tomatoes are blooming.
Here are some pictures taken on Monday of this week, May 17. You can click on any picture for a close-up.
